Youth Programs :: For Youth Agencies

We are pleased to offer free or reduced price programming through June, 2006 for youth agencies in Duluth and Carlton County through a grant from the Northland Foundation.  Most outings are 2 hours in length, and take place after school.  Longer outings with more instruction or more advanced programming can be scheduled during school breaks and on weekends.  Positive Energy for Youth also works with organizations outside of Northeast Minnesota.  Please contact Blake Cazier at 218-391-0147 to schedule youth programs.

All youth participants in Outdoor (ed)Ventures programming are required to have a completed parent permission/release of liability form to be kept on file with the participating youth agency.

Your participation continues the 12+ year history of outdoor adventure programming in cooperation with the Duluth Youth Agency Coalition (DYAC) and Carlton County Youth Partners.

Dogsledding
Join us for a winter journey exploring the trails and lakes just north of Duluth by dog team.  You’ll learn how to harness and hook up the team of friendly Alaskan huskies, then head out for an exciting ride.

Horse drawn sleigh and wagon rides
Let our gentle Percheron draft horse, Tracy, take you back in time.  In winter, sleigh bells jingle as our comfortable 5 passenger sleigh glides effortlessly through the snow.  Spring through fall, hop on our wagonette for a relaxing ride through the woods.

Sea kayaking
Experience travel by stable and comfortable sea kayaks on a quiet inland lake.  Learn correct paddling and rescue techniques and explore the beauty of Fredenberg or Island Lakes.

Rock climbing
Admire some of the area’s most spectacular views while challenging yourself and your ability to work together as a team on local climbing routes in Duluth and on the North Shore.

Snowshoeing and cross country skiing
Enjoy the winter season while traveling via snowshoes or cross country skis.  Learn both travel techniques, or brush op on skills to move on top of the snow!

Solar oven cooking
Ever thought of using the sun to make homemade pizza, bread, vegetables or even chocolate cake?  Learn recipes and techniques to harness the sun’s rays to make, bake and enjoy tasty foods.

Renewable energy
Build a battery out of a potato, learn about where electricity comes from, and see why solar radios, wind turbines and electric cars are more than just good ideas, but make good sense!  Renewable energy education provides opportunities to experience these ideas as realities for the home, classroom and in the minds of students, leading to improved awareness of our ability to impact the environment in positive ways.

Teambuilding activities
Build long-lasting and strong bonds with family members, co-workers, friends, scout groups and youth programs as you work with your team to overcome a series of challenges and activities.  Learn how your behavior and attitude can positively impact your group as you brainstorm, experiment and overcome obstacles together.

High and low ropes course
Enjoy an experience that challenges both physical and mental abilities.  Elements such as the pamper pole, giant’s ladder, catwalk and zip line provide participants with opportunities to work as a team, and confront fears.  In addition, the 50 foot climbing wall is one of the highest in Duluth.  Imagine what you can do on the ground after seeing what you are capable of in the air.

Outrigger canoeing
In cooperation with the Duluth Boat Club, paddle with your group of 6 in a 40 foot long outrigger canoe.  You’ll experience teamwork and the beauty of St. Louis Bay while learning about boats made for the waves of the pacific.  Each outrigger canoe holds 6 paddlers.

Dragon boats
Listen to the drum beat as your team of 20 paddlers powers through the water in a dragon boat on the St. Louis Bay.  Experience this exciting activity, with roots in China, and races and festivals around the world.

Superior Hiking Trail
Meandering along the ridges and outcrops of Lake Superior’s North Shore, this 205 miles trail presents many opportunities for exploring and hiking.  Experience the newest 7 miles of trail that run from Duluth—an additional 39 miles of trail are being constructed to connect Duluth and Two Harbors to the Canadian Border!

Community Service Options
Positive Energy Outdoor (ed)Ventures works with a range of organizations to develop community service projects suitable for a wide range of group sizes and interests.  Please call for more information and options.

Canoeing
Put a paddle in the water and power across a beautiful lake.  Learn correct paddling techniques for flat and moving water, portaging methods and rescue skills.
