Sea Kayaking: The Paddling Experience
We know that every paddler has individual goals--we'll help make your paddling experience unique and personal.
Inland Lake Introductions to sea kayaking last about 2.5 hours and are suitable for all ages and abilities. Children as young as age 5 have enjoyed paddling in our kid-sized boats. We're the only program in the region to offer youth sized equipment!
Introductions at our private waterfront combine a special blend of kayaking safety, skills, equipment and technique, with most of your time spent on the water. These introductions are great for families, couples and individuals and prepare you to paddle safely on an inland lake. They are also a great foundation for paddling on Lake Superior. We are long time supporters of the American Canoe Association and its instructional guidelines for coastal kayaking and Blake is among the first in the area to be certified as a whitewater and coastal kayak instructor.
Wednesday Women's Paddling (6-8 pm)is designed to build paddling skills in a friendly, women-only environment. No experience is necessary. Come after work, bring a friend and learn to paddle or improve your skills. You'll enjoy the company of new friends as well as loons, great blue herons and bald eagles. $20/session.
Half and Full Day Trips are custom explorations. We'll work with you to design an (ed)Venture from local lakes to Lake Superior.
Kayak Day Camp (July 16-20)
For youth who have completed grades 2-8
Can't get enough of the water? You'll love our kayak camp! We’ll explore kayak styles, paddling strokes, wet exits and rescue skills at our private inland lake waterfront. When you're not in the water, enjoy hiking, rock climbing, participating in team challenges or cooking in a solar oven. You’ll also take a horse drawn wagon ride and meet our kennel of friendly Alaskan husky sled dogs. End the week with a picnic/potluck for families.
Day camps have a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 participants. Program fees include transportation, equipment and instruction. Bring a bag lunch, water bottle, sunscreen and raingear. Camp runs from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Overnights, Camping Trips and Paddling Vacations offer customized extended adventures.
Skills Training gives paddlers interested in improving technique the opportunity to receive expert instruction, practice with constructive and supportive feedback and come away with a better idea of what specific skills you can practice that will help you on your next adventure. We have successfully guided, taught and tripped on oceans, whitewater rivers and the Great Lakes and are excited to be a resource to help you with your kayaking dreams!
Youth and Family Instruction and Tours at the Two Harbors Kayak Festival provides a number of fun options, from youth instruction, family tours, kids kayaking area and a race for kids where everyone wins. Pre-register for tours and instruction until Friday, August 3.
