Kayak Tours and Instruction
Positive Energy Outdoors is proud to offer kayaking on our private inland lake waterfront and Lake Superior. Our kayak programs range from 2 hours to a full day, and custom multi-day trips are available. There is no minimum or maximum age. Very young children can ride in the front of a tandem kayak on our private inland lake, and children as young as 5 enjoy our paddling our exclusive youth sized boats. Our fleet of 24+ kayaks includes boats for paddlers under 100 pounds, stable single and tandem kayaks as well as fishing kayaks.
We offer tours and instruction 7 days a week on both our private, inland lake and wind and weather permitting, on Lake Superior. Lake Superior tours begin by 9 am, the calmest part of the day. Morning, afternoon or evening start times are available for inland lake paddling. Positive Energy provides boats, paddles, PFDs, wetsuits for Lake Superior and instruction. Bring a swimsuit, towel, water bottles, sunscreen, shoes to get wet and lunch or snacks. While advanced reservations are recommended, especially for weekend and holidays, give us a call--we can often accommodate last minute inquiries.

Inland Lake Kayaking
Inland Lake Kayak Skills Course (2-3 hours): $75/adult, $30/child under 12. Positive Energy Outdoors offers a Kayak Skills Course on Fredenberg Lake designed to teach basic paddling and rescue skills, including an overview and introduction to kayak designs and types, proper kayak outfitting, sizing and foot pedal adjustment, basic paddle strokes (forward, reverse, sweep and draw), entering and exiting the kayak from shore or a dock, and rescue skills including the wet exit, solo and assisted rescues and braces. Participation in Positive Energy's Kayak Skills course or a similar course offered by a reputable provider is required to rent boats for use on Fredenberg or Island Lakes ($10/hour for single kayaks, $15/hour for tandem kayaks). Sorry, we do not rent boats for use on Lake Superior.

No previous kayak experience is necessary, and youth sized boats, tandem (2 person) kayaks or stable fishing/recreational kayaks are available to try. Learn basic paddle strokes and how to safety enter and exit your boat, as well as what to do in the event of an accidental capsize. Want to get wet? We can teach you rescue skills as part of the intro or you can simply paddle and enjoy the scenery and wildlife, as we often see loons, bald eagles, great blue herons, turtles, deer and more.
