Inland Lake and Lake Superior Kayaking
Positive Energy Outdoors offers personalized, small group inland lake and Lake Superior kayak skills instruction and tours at our private waterfront on Fredenberg Lake just north of Duluth and on the North Shore of Lake Superior.
Kayak skills instruction and tours take place 7 days a week on Fredenberg/Island Lakes, in Duluth on the St. Louis River and Park Point and on Lake Superior at Burlington Bay in Two Harbors, at Split Rock Lighthouse State Park and at Tettegouche State Park near Silver Bay. We offer kayak tours from mid-May through October. Call about conditions if you are in the area at the beginning or end of the season. Minimum age for Lake Superior kayaking is 8. There is no minimum age for inland lake kayaking.
Lake Superior kayak tours begin at 9 am, the calmest part of the day on the big lake. Inland lake kayak skills instruction and tours are available at 9 am or 1 pm. Positive Energy Outdoors is the only kayak tour provider in the region to offer youth sized kayaks for paddlers under 100 pounds.
During our half day (3 hour) inland lake or Lake Superior kayak tours you will:
- Receive an on-land introduction to our stable single and tandem kayaks and paddling equipment, including PFDs, paddles and safety equipment, as well as what to do in case of accidental capsize
- Learn how to enter and exit the kayak from the shore or dock, explore paddling techniques and receive coaching on the water from our experienced kayak guides
- Hear stories about the unique natural, historical and geological history of the region
Experience for yourself the scenic and calm warm water of Fredenberg/Island Lakes or glide past ocean going ships, historic lighthouses, stunning sea cliffs and abundant wildlife, including bald eagles and falcons, on the North Shore of Lake Superior.
