Dog Sledding :: FAQ

Is there lodging close by?

The closest accomodation is in Duluth or Two Harbors.  Many of our guests have enjoyed their stay at the Inn on Gitche Gumee, located on Scenic 61 between Duluth and Two Harbors.  We also recommend the Immigrant House Bed and Breakfast in Duluth.

Will kids enjoy the experience?

Absolutely!  Kids love meeting our friendly huskies, and even toddlers enjoy riding in the sled basket.  Our neice, Sophie, age 6, helps Blake drive the sled.  A 2 hour outing is the perfect amount of time for younger kids, and you are welcome to join us at the house for hot cocoa after your adventure!

Is previous experience required?

You don't need any experience to enjoy dogsledding, just your sense of adventure.  We'll introduce you to the dogs, equipment and history of mushing, help you harness and hook up your team, and share tips on driving the sled during your ride.

Can I drive the sled?

Yes!  We want you to experience driving the sled if you choose, and we'll work with you to build your skills during the trip.  If you are interested in having more sled time and instruction, a full day trip is a great way to practice your skills.

Will I get my own team?

We encourage first time mushers to experience driving a sled with one of us along to instruct.  When the conditions are right, we can hook up a small team for a solo driving experience once you've mastered the basics of driving a sled.

Do you rent winter boots?

Yes.  We rent Northwoods Boots for $5/pair.  We want your feet to be warm!

Do you take credit cards?

Not at this time.  We accept cash or checks only.

What is your cancellation policy?

You may cancel your reservation without penalty up to two weeks in advance of your trip date if we are able to re-book your time slot.  We are unable to refund deposits for cancellations within two weeks of your trip; however, the deposit can be applied to a future trip.  We cannot guarantee availability for future trip dates, but will do our best to accommodate your request if booked far enough in advance.  If Positive Energy must cancel your trip due to weather conditions, you may apply your deposit toward a future outing or you may request the refund of your deposit.
