For youth who have completed grades 8-12. Learn the skills you’ll need to assist with Positive Energy’s outdoor programs: climbing, kayaking, team building, renewable energy, draft horses, sled dogs and more. After a 3 day leadership and skills training (9 am - 4 pm each day), you’ll be ready to volunteer with Positive Energy’s day camps and youth programs throughout the summer, teaching younger children the skills you have learned, and acting as a positive role model. 25-50 hours of volunteering is required for participation in this program.
Horses and More Day Camp: June 20-24, 2011 ($250)
For youth who have completed grades 2-6. Spend the mornings with Tracy and Blaze, our gentle draft horses, exploring draft horse history, care and grooming, harnessing and driving. Afternoons are for swimming, hiking, kayaking, team challenges, solar oven cooking, rock climbing and meeting our friendly sled dogs. The week ends with a picnic and slideshow for families.
Girls' Outdoor (ed)Ventures Day Camp: August 8-11, 2011 ($250)
For youth who have completed grades 2-6. Want to try a little of everything? Our Girls' Outdoor (ed)Ventures camp is for you! You’ll also take a horse drawn wagon ride and meet our kennel of friendly Alaskan husky sled dogs. Friday evening, enjoy a picnic and slideshow for families!
Kayak Camp: July 25-29, 2011 ($250)
For youth who have completed grades 2-6. Join us at our private inland lake waterfront for a week of fun in a kayak. Positive Energy is the only outdoor program in the region to offer youth sized kayaks designed for smaller paddlers. Explore kayak styles, including single kayaks, tandem kayaks and fishing kayaks, practice paddling techniques, play games and learn safety and rescue skills. You’ll also experience the plants and animals that live in the Lake Superior watershed. When you're not in the water, enjoy hiking, rock climbing, participating in team challenges, and cooking in a solar oven, driving draft horses and meeting our sled dogs. End the week with a picnic and slideshow for families.
Climbing Camp: July 11-15, 2011 ($250)
For youth who have completed grades 2-6. Join us for a week of climbing in a small group at a variety of beginner friendly sites in and around Duluth. Campers will receive personal attention and coaching as they learn all the skills they need to climb, including safety skills, knots, belaying and climbing techniques. Positive Energy directors Blake Cazier and Stephanie Love personally lead the camp. Let their 40+ years of combined climbing and teaching expertise help your child enjoy the excitement of climbing with confidence. In addition to rock climbing, campers will participate in kayaking, swimming, team building challenges, driving draft horses, hiking, orienteering, and other camp activities. The session concludes with a Friday evening picnic and slideshow for families at Marshall School.
